This was an animated promotional video that Falcom commissioned for Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys game for PC Engine, to shop around to various production houses. This was done in hopes of getting it made into a full-scale animated series/movie/etc., but it never panned out.

It is somewhat similar to how human decompose after death, but it’s more about the spirit -spirit of the syllables- that sublime and skeletonize… A verse may forfeit its life, but the spirit returns home with the wind, and wait for destined rebirth.

This is the first animation I made for a university class when I was around 21 years old. I cut up pieces of black paper and pasted them one by one on a white wall, then filmed them. I traced a photo book by Eadweard Muybridge to create the material. It was made on 8mm film. The background music uses some of the soundtrack from the film "Ragtime." I created it with the sole focus of matching the music to the movement of the pictures and the scene changes. It is a memorable work for me.

The image of the telegraph pole raising her child using cables in place of arms and legs is quite charming. The spirit of the producer who made such a wild idea into a film is also quite charming.

As we get up in the morning and put on clothes, we are alive in a social system. Nobody understands whether it is the correct world. However, even if you escape from the system, the day you have to return will come.
The film is made with the Surrealist game ‘exquisite corpse’ as its core methodology. Pictures are. . . drawn repeatedly. After several days [he] forgets the images he has drawn himself. Through the accumulation of coincidences and contiguities the act of ‘combining the forgotten images together’ generates interstices, and finally this play gets its own rhythm and opens itself like a window through with the sunlight streams.

These three colours unite into one, [rising] until the summit, over the boundary line, and becomes a white circle to a full stop. And then it returns to the first state.
The film is about the water cycle. Each of the rain drops transform. . . as they follow the cycle of nature, uniting with each other, parting, or being absorbed in the course of their journey
Things are kind of crappy right now. In Japanese, we say "hanakuso (nose snot)" instead of crap, though. Here's a dose of hope and giggles.
