One day, a pet turtle named Kamesuke decided to go out alone. It should have been all that he had hoped for and yet he couldn't help but feel like something was missing.

Hidamari no Shi is the fourth part of the five-part film Zoo, adapted from the first volume of Otsuichi's novels of the same name. It is the only part of the film made from animation; the other parts are live-action sequences.

If there are many photos taken at different times and places, and the same person appears in each photo, then by taking stop-motion pictures of those photos, it will become an animation of the same person moving. It would be fun to force the person to move. Furthermore, the large differences in the elements of each photo must produce something intense. The trigger for making this work was when I noticed that there were many photos of one person that gave me such expectations.

Mikio Osawa, an average 5th grade school boy, lives in the suburbs of Osaka. Mikio likes Haruko Tezuka, a cute little girl in his class. The film is based on Ukiyodoko, a rakugo storytelling piece. Hanzo, the hero, brags to his friends to make a party go. Human nature remains unchanged. . . We love meaningless converstaions among boon companions. Different communication methods are visually tangled in. . . Edo and today. The theme is an ‘interchange between the transient and the immutable.
