Swan Song

This was Carolina Lopez Caballero's graduation film at Farnham (now Surrey Institute of Art and Design), but has a strength and confidence of vision which is unusual in student work. The technique mixes three dimensional work, boiling watercolour, thick paint, ink and collage. The mark-making mixes roughness and calligraphic grace. The film tells a dreamlike story of a king who is attracted to the singing of a mysterious woman. He is disappointed when she turns out to have the head and neck of a swan and finds it difficult to fit into her new role as Queen.

Joan Miró

A film from the series "Impressions" made using classical and trick animation techniques, inspired by the paintings of Joan Miro. Deformed figures - ideograms from Miro's paintings, float in an undefined space. The plastic forms of the sun and moon symbolize the elements associated with the cosmos - the activity of day and the magic of night, the eternal relationship of light and darkness. The natural link between the cosmos and the earth are the birds, which, returning from their skyward wanderings, smash the remnants of the night with their wings, only to disappear a moment later into the light of day.

An Obedient Pupil

Made after several Indian folk & wisdom tales. It tells about the absurdity to follow philosophical truths to the letter. One needs to follow ones inner truth and weigh it with ones common senses and ones circumstances. He also plays with his audience by in the end having the wise man in the tale plead for the opposite. So what does one think oneself..?. In the art-direction new and various ways of using paper are being explored in Kalishers last 3 animations. You could also say that this particular animation reflects the Russian situation at the time, with all kinds of Western countries advising & influencing the russian govenment how to proceed dismantling the USSR and stepping over to a capitalistic economy ( with "shock"therapy), which resulted in a 10 years Rulership of all kinds of criminals and the Ultra-capitalistic Putin kleptocracy that's ruling now.
