Die große Reise des kleinen Elefanten

A little elephant playing soccer with a coconut in the desert is told that his nut has rolled to the ends of the earth. He immediately sets off to look for it. On the way, he meets other animal children who want to help him. They all realize that the end of each animal's life does not mean the end of the world. So the journey becomes longer and longer, the group of wanderers larger and larger, and finally, to the elephant's astonishment, the animals return to the starting point of the journey. And because they want to test their discovery that the earth is round like a coconut once again, they march around the equator once more.

Pinocchio

The film was directed by Giuliano Cenci with assistance from his brother Renzo. During production, Carlo Collodis grandchildren Mario and Antonio Lorenzini were consulted. The subtle movements made by fidgeting children whilst speaking or under scrutiny were incorporated into Pinocchios movements, particularly when he lies to the Fairy with the Turquoise Hair over the fate of his gold coins. For the design of the Fairy, Italian portrayals of the Blessed Virgin Mary in art were used as starting points.

'GIVE IT UP!'

Loosely based on Franz Kafka’s short story, 'GIVE IT UP!' is a live-action animation odyssey through the confusion of life in the modern world. The narrative follows a lone salesman trapped in a timeless city, increasingly lost in his feverish dreams. Desperate, he races towards a train station as his last hope of escaping the city, encountering divine light, winding roads and the forces of bureaucracy. This deeply personal and referential work preserves Kafka’s absurd humour and pays homage to Weimar cinema of the 1920s, but also elevates the text to an existential meditation on authority, purpose and human helplessness.

The Hangman at Home

"What does the hangman think about when he goes home at night from work?" The Hangman at Home is an animated film exploring themes surrounding acknowledgement and the awkward intimacy of humanness. Told in five interwoven stories; each situation presents a person, or persons in a delicate moment: fragile, playful, terrified, contemplated, confused, curious… We are all very much alike in these moments - alerting us to question our own responsibility and responses. Inspired by Carl Sandburg’s chilling poem of the same name.
