data-cosm [n°1]

Commissioned by 180 Studios, Ryoji Ikeda's new site-specific audio-visual installation data-cosm [n°1] is a unique immersive experience charting the full spectrum of data on nature – from the microscopic scale of particle physics to the macroscopic of astrophysics, as was previously evident in the artist's data-verse project. data-cosm [n°1] functions as a giant microscope, a scientific apparatus, a clinical device, a monitoring system, and a window to an infinitely vast space. Visitors are invited to lie down on the floor and look up at the large LED screen set on the ceiling above them, their bodies surrounded by Ikeda's soundscapes – a total sensory experience.

Moose Run

“What is needed to tell a story? When stripped down to the essentials, a successful story needs engaging characters, an arc and something worth telling. Moose Run is a stop motion romp where circles, triangles and squares come together to make characters that have personalities, motivation and adventure. Using simple tools, this animated short illustrates the possibility of creating story and life with basic materials and free (or close to free) technology. Moose Run is an exploration of how to pare down embellishments and technical complexity to tell the simple story of an elderly lady, a moose and their unlikely yet endearing friendship, and the adventure they go on through the magic of collage and animation.”

Continuation

A "clock" was one of the imagery materials for the video. The rotating hour and minute hands, ticking away time. I wondered what it would be like to freeze the moving hands and rotate the dial... While creating this piece, I wondered how much time I had left. How many more pieces I could create. How would the scenery change if I stopped something moving? Perhaps this could be a guideline for my next piece. The work's subtitle, "漕続-SOUZOKU-" is a word coined by the artist, meaning "slowly but steadily moving forward".

Where The Stars Rest

A tender, dialogue-free animated short film that explores grief through the eyes of a child. When a boy loses his older brother, he embarks on an imaginative journey filled with rockets, stars, and memories. As reality and fantasy intertwine, the film delicately addresses the weight of loss and the quiet strength needed to move forward. With a minimalist visual style and symbolic narrative, Where the Stars Rest is a heartfelt tribute to love, loss, and the places where we keep those we have lost.
