What’s a star in a movie? A black dot in the film negative. In the nineteen eighties I enjoyed painting on 35mm blank film and painted a negative. That means every frame was painted in reverse color - black became white, blueish green became red, yellow was to be sort of blue. The result: all colors are on black background - like in the windows in old cathedrals. The music was improvised after the film was finished by Jasper van’t Hof, vocals by Eva Mattes. The film was premiered in competition at the Berlinale 1985.

Independently produced cel-animated film produced by U. Manabuken of Kyushu University, with the cooperation of Manabuken at the time and volunteers from the Animation Research Institute and others. Completed in May 1984 after about 2 years of production. Total number of drawings: approximately 2,000. The work is full of passion for depicting the action of beautiful girls and effects such as explosions and rock splitting, and is a tour de force in terms of drawing and backgrounds, as well as experimenting with filming techniques such as double exposure, transmitted and incidental light, etc. The story, however, is forced, or should not be considered in depth.The extras include some of the settings and moving images, some of the lost cuts, test and play videos, doodles, etc. As the extras, it was introduced in the Dec 83 issue of the animation-related magazine Fan Road

Masquerade

At sunrise, a peasant begins plowing. This iconographic motif becomes a caricature in the animation. The problem is that the peasant gropes, he plows through the legs of a resting peasant woman, railway tracks, a dining carriage, double bedrooms, office corridors, palace interiors, and meetings of diplomats. The Cat Who Walked by Herself

Two parents put their child in his crib for the night and leave the room. The child starts crying, and the Cat comes into the room to keep him company.
