Based on themes arising from real life interviews, Touch Wood looks at the nature of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder. The action takes place over one night where we see a man preparing for bed. However instead of falling asleep he spends the time checking and rechecking lights, doors and clocks, obsessively securing the house for his night’s rest. Stylistically the animation highlights the divide between the character and his attempt to control his increasingly malevolent environment. The film explores the uneasy balance between the man’s desire to control his life and the compulsions that try to possess him.

The animation drew inspiration from iconic pop culture references, including the chase in JAWS and the playful antics between Tom and Jerry. The sound was designed by Alex George and nods to Henry Mancini’s theme for The Pink Panther. The animation’s goal was to combine a timeless narrative using classic 2D animation techniques and attentive craftsmanship. Through this work, Nim aimed to showcase her artistic vision while staying true to the essence of traditional animation.

It was designed to illustrate the Ancient Greek myth of the Creation of the world. It was shot on 16mm and subsequently enlarged onto 35mm for festival screenings. The techniques employed were a test run for those which ultimately were used within Ra; the Path of the Sun God. Two versions exist; one with narration and one without.

Boogie Rag Roll - Thunderclap Jones
This short comedy poetry film is about me, my partner Alex and Rufus, the dog we dog-sit who intrudes somehow in our relationship. I share my experience of me almost sharing Alex with Rufus whenever he is around with Rufus dominating and me battling this creature by me becoming him by me dressing up in a dog costume. The poem is humorous in tone and uses end of sentence rhyming couplets for poise and wit to dramatic effect.
