Cubits

Jarnow adapts an architectural grid catalogue of cubic rotations in order to explore a direct relationship between animation procedure and logical numerical operations. The film is as much the making of animation as it is a paper model of a computer. The cube sheet, upon which the film is based, is so constructed that a horizontal cubic rotation and a diagonal pan yields a diagonal rotation. Combinations of these primary moves result in more complex rotations throughout this awe inspiring film.

Carousel Lion

The park had a merry-go-round with figures of animals on it. There were: an elephant, a giraffe, a zebra, a donkey, a horse and a lion. The children enjoyed riding the carousel. One girl was afraid of a lion at first, and then she tried to ride only on him. When winter came, the girl came to the park and saw that there was no lion on the carousel. Then she found a lion at the park fence, dirty and with a damaged paw. The girl tied up the lion with her scarf and took him home.

Heavy-Light

An abstract animated film in which colored, richly textured light moves in a black, three-dimensional space. The pictures and the electronic score are unified in a strict structure made of three main sections which progressively develop three subsections. The film may look like it was made using computers or video to the unaware, but it is purely the result of animation and much optical printing. Preserved by the Academy Film Archive in partnership with iotaCenter and National Film Preservation Foundation in 2007.
