Flow of Being

A woman wakes up at home. She looks at her garden, mindful of the concealed rhythms of plants and animals. A moose visits her. She follows it and there begins a strange journey where the world and her flow together, until they become one. Director Unt creates a beautiful story of rebirth and emancipation. To achieve this, she uses several animation techniques for each step she makes, each metamorphosis she undergoes, from cut-outs to moving sand, from traditional 2D to point-of-view shots. The viewer can appreciate the textures, the tactile quality of the film, and, at the same time, how the main character gets freer in the frame. There’s indeed an expert lightness of touch at work here.

The Future ... Is Just Like You Imagined

The Future ... Is Just Like You Imagined is a short experimental animation film that explores two distinct dystopian futures through the lens of our internet and pop culture imaginarium. It assembles an extensive collection of visual tropes and clichés to depict a grim vision ruled by totalitarian systems of control, coercion and oppression. From brutal autocratic dictatorships to decaying cyberpunk megacities, familiar imagery warns of a self-fulfilling prophecy that may be upon us. The future... is just like you imagined is a part of the multi-year project SND (Spoznavanje narave in družbe, or Studies of Nature and Society) by visual artist Sara Bezovšek in which she reappropriates internet and pop culture references using a dense visual language in order to construct narratives that are both a critique and a celebration of the highly saturated online media landscapes we navigate daily.

Нечётная сторона голов

A surreal film about the reactions of different personalities to external stimuli. A selection of funny situations and attractions with elements of the absurd. The heads stand in a row, like houses along the street. Characters, objects and other entities penetrate inside the head houses and organize various actions there, changing themselves or changing the heads. Some scenes are played out inside the head. Part - from the outside - in the panorama along the street. Passers-by and guests in houses are the essence of thoughts or feelings. The brain or eyes are the inhabitants.

Sky like Silk. Full of Oranges

Picture postcards, travel brochures and holiday photos are all this merrily caustic collage needs to portray moods and desires between the fall of the Berlin Wall and German reunification. In spring 1990, the first Interflug plane carrying GDR citizens touched down on Majorca. About the mediterranean colours of the island, the first-person narrator remarks in the voiceover: “We knew them from the postcards sent by our West German relatives. This was the West, this was West-West.” Ostensibly naïve, her recollections nonetheless develop an ironic undertone. However blue the sea shines in the photos, however loud the castanets play, the travel group with their East German money are never more than onlookers in this half-board paradise. Everything seems like an empty promise: the bursting oranges on the trees, the sumptuous breakfast buffet and the giant hotel pools.
