Konigiri-kun is an energetic rice ball boy, with a triangular body and a sesame salt head. He goes to the birthday party of his friend, Mini Tomato. Believe it or not, his home is the highest point of a high-rise apartment! They get straight into a gondola and head off! Good heavens! The roof next door has been blown away by the winds! Ms. Tori (bird) desperately tries to protect her children, but neither the rain, nor the wind are stopping. But everything’s okay because Konigiri-kun is coming with his parasol to help!

Temple

Temple is a guided CGI tour through a ghostly nightclub of evacuated London: a space filled with ethereal dance anthems of the near future. Originally created for a site-specific installation at central London art space 180 The Strand, the video continues his series of virtual worlds that explore the role of memory in an age of simulation. For the exhibition, Lek made a physical version of Temple, the karaoke club originally featured in his feature-length CGI film ‘AIDOL’ (2019), where the fading popstar Diva plans her comeback with an AI ghostwriter. The soundtrack filled the neon-lit room, while screens displayed video game walkthroughs of a new subterranean tunnel that leads virtual ravers from Temple Tube Station to Diva’s club, through the burning rubbish bins of a future-wracked London. Referencing the Japanese meaning of kara-oke—‘empty orchestra’—Temple is a nightclub after the party ends; a place devoid of humans; a sonic architecture filled only with ghosts.

The Living Book

The Living Book combines live action and animation to describe a couple’s bickering attempts to account for all of human culture, post-apocalypse, as their own memories fail them. Partly inspired by the Doukhobors’ (a 17th-century Christian sect in Poland) Living Book, Erin Cosgrove’s film also draws on such diverse source material as string-theory, science fiction, and religious history. Meditative and humorous, the film confronts its overtly broad theme within the frame of an ongoing argument between two lifetime intimates.
