Deadly Tantrum

Geoffrey, the mutant simpleton is indulging in his dual hobbies of DIY and homicide, having kidnapped another hapless victim and tied her to one of his over-elaborate, death-inducing contraptions. But this time he didn't count on being interrupted by a rather over zealous cop who's willing to do just about anything, no matter how dangerous (or stupid), to save the damsel in distress. Will our hero save the girl before Geoffrey's home made death machine goes off or will Geoffrey add another victim to his ever growing list - and just how can our hero make Geoffrey stay dead? Featuring ridiculous stunts and gruesome special effects, Deadly Tantrum is a five minute frenzy of over the top action and full on horror comedy

Get Animated! BBC Introducing Arts

Plunge into exciting, strange and beautiful animated worlds with Radio 1 film critic Ali Plumb as he celebrates the new breed of animators whose short films include malicious toasters, cheeky Glaswegian pigeons, job-haunting ghosts and incredibly smelly fungi. Stylistically, the films include a beautiful pen and ink evocation of Manchester architecture, a super-real, digital recreation of the human body and all points between. Dancing Fruit

From the music of UK composer Rachel Portman, Vietnamese-Czech filmmaker Diana Cam Van Nguyen crafts a story of animated fruits that is a celebration of life, a bat mitzvah of a film, dense with color and cheer. This short film is part of the 2x25 Project of Film Fest Gent and the World Soundtrack Awards. The project commissioned 25 composers to compose a short piece of music, after which 25 filmmakers made short films that are the ultimate symbioses of music and cinematography, fitting completely within the DNA of the festival. The result: 25 exceptional films where the music inspired the form, narrative and texture.

Biogenesis

Biogenesis shows the evolution of artificial life forms in a synthetic universe where 'survival of the fittest' is replaced by 'survival of the most aesthetic'. We see cellular evolution and the replication of mutations forming chain-like structures resembling coral. The artist is like a gardener, breeding, selecting, marrying and steering the course of evolution for creative ends. The film is a record of this evolutionary process. It can be viewed as a psychedelic experience or a more subtle parody of a man's relationship with the natural world through modern technology.
