26/71: Cartoon - Balzac and the Eye of God

Zeichenfilm - Balzac oder das Auge Gottes is a play on the idea of trick film. And trick film it is. The 30-second work is shown twice in case the viewer missed something the first time: in crude hand-drawn animation Zeichenfilm ... evokes the scatological sado-masochistic actions and performances of Otto Muehl and Günter Brus which Kren filmed during his second period. In Zeichenfilm Balzac a male figure hangs himself, achieves a monstrous erection and ejaculates into a woman's mouth. She in turn hangs herself; he enters her vaginally then anally. Finally, she defecates on the left side of the frame wherein appears an eye of God while on the right in a cartoon box the words "Aber Otto" ("But Otto") materialize, a comic reference to Otto Muehl.

Behind the Lines

Amany Al-Ali stands out as one of Syria's few female cartoonists, residing in her father's home in Idlib, the last city unconquered by Assad's forces. Like her remaining neighbours she's submitted to relentless Russian airstrikes and caught between advancing troops and extremist groups. Despite acclaim for her art, she faces threats, condemnation, and degradation, causing her to contemplate leaving. Ironically, her artwork has graced galleries in France and Italy but never received exposure within Syria's borders. The film captures her endeavor to organize her inaugural exhibition in Idlib. This experience compels her to confront the harsh realities of a city defined by bombings and male interference. While organizing drawing lessons for women and girls, comforting her young niece, and sharing her story with the documentary crew, Amany's outlook on the future gradually erodes.

Dalmatians 3

The three little Dalmatians lived with an old lady just outside of town. One day they overheard the neighbor talking about a market selling gingerbread, cotton candy and many other goodies. "Gingerbread," beamed Krümel. "Our old lady loves to eat gingerbread!" "Me too," said the icing on the cake. "We'll go to the market and get a gingerbread heart," suggested Krümel. “And then we'll give it to our old lady for her birthday.” But the trader in the market had no sympathy for three little Dalmatians who just wanted to put their gingerbread hearts in their pockets. He called the police and had the dogs taken to an animal shelter. Only the icing on the cake could escape and she decided to free her friends.
