Marvelous Machines

Marvelous machines is a poetic and surrealistic story about consciousness and evolution. In a world without humans, machines start to think uniformally, as one single big mind. What if one machine tries to implement and create a better way of thinking in their mind's algorithm ? Through this little short movie, using a lot of visual symbolism, we are witnessing the creation of a singular mind, through different steps of cousciousness. Finally, when the creation was done, the ultimate intelligence the machines have built is the most marvelous one, the human mind. Through this artificial intelligence interpretation, questionning his danger and his limits, I wanted to show the importance of thinking by yourself. I think, in the quest of "life's meaning", diversity, curiosity and singularity are the keys to find it. Those are our marvelous gifts among other machines.

Pan mun jom

Pan Mun Jom (2013) goes further in the questioning on the fictional dimension of the DMZ (and of demarcations in general) by reducing to colour spots soldiers facing each other from both sides of the border… Who is who? Who is where? Where are we? As the shooting authorizations where cancelled following the 2013 North-Korean crisis, the video simulates the filming with a thermal imaging camera reproducing images at 37°C (98.6°F) – in other words, our body temperature. Hence, the abstraction achieved through scientific imaging (re)places on an equal stage the soldiers no matter what side they are on, and thus cancels the very notion of border.

Tiny Big

At once fanciful and disquieting, “Tiny Big” presents a series of seemingly unrelated vignettes expressed through simple black-and-white line drawings, punctuated with occasional surprising bursts of color. Underscored by a soundtrack featuring the sounds of nature – wind, waves, crickets – the film eschews narrative, challenging viewers to draw their own conclusions about the significance of ritualized actions in a world that’s both hauntingly familiar and decidedly strange.

It's the summer of 1987, and the young Schuster family from the Leipzig district is heading on vacation. With their Trabant and trailer, they set off for a small private accommodation near the border of what was then West Germany. This autobiographical animated documentary follows the family on their journey, providing a glimpse into the curious details of a typical GDR vacation so close to the western border. Between the Volkspolizei, border patrols, shortages, and idyllic beach scenes in East Germany's vacation paradise, this animated docufilm swings back and forth. Personal memories and carefully documented facts merge into a travel diary brought to life through animation.

Wetware

Both abject through its texture and relatable in its fragility, WETWARE offers hyperreality without the common symptoms of alienation. A seemingly self-sustaining ‘organism’ is generated completely in digital through synthesis without reliance on ’real’ imagery. The resulting image is limitless, perpetually spilling outside itself. Suggesting a feed pulsating beyond a bodily surface or even any bodily context, the work examines digital intimacies while also referencing worship music in its relaxing albeit disorienting sonic composition.
