The kids want to hear about how they got married and father and mother each tell their different versions of the story

The Neighborhood Community (Tonari-gumi) was the smallest unit of population which was the national mobilization program established by the Japanese government during the World War II. This was to regulate rationing and thought control more efficiently. Each unit was consisted from 5-10 households, and organized to help one another, also to keep eye on any suspicious behavior. The same title song was made to promote this program, became a big hit in Japan with its cheerful melody.

An exhausted ego and a needy id, the sensory and the lingual, desire and duty, horror and humility vie it out in a haunted hall. Captured at Headlands Center for the Arts, screams of a baby are muted out while the process of portraiture claims space for a body craving autonomy. Actions of pushing, vacuuming and rocking conjure the rickety bones of downtrodden ancestors, calling the laboring body from the periphery to the center, moving the rage through the body for joy to inhabit the space it vacates.

The man, whose only wish is to return to this world, is accompanied by a young soul whose only desire is to have fun at an amusement park for a day, and he is told to consider another wish while he takes care of the child. The man then becomes the child's guardian.
