Cloud with Salts

One day in the 70s, at the Northern New Territories.  Under the brazing sun, the sound of cicadas intertwined with the rotten smell near the train tracks. The five youngsters could not dismiss the summer blues. They pushed the weeds and stepped on the squirming maggots. They found a decaying dead body trapped under the burning sun. It was oozing a foul stench.  They covered their nose and vomited. Hearing the train whined, the youngsters made up their minds.  Even though they did not have much, they answered the call from the syrup and caffeine. They added colour to their lives with a pinch of salt onto the transparent White Cloud, and they dashed in full strength and leaped up.

KASHIKOKIMONO

Since the early days, Hayakawa's works have been established by hand-drawn moving images and digitally processed reproduction and proliferation, and the precision of this process has been accelerating in proportion to the evolution of video equipment. The balance between the organic nature of the vital movement that stimulates the fundamental part of human perception and the abstractness of the work's composition is pleasant. His challenge to always keep an eye on the cutting edge of video technology seems to be exploring a new animation language, and shows us the possibilities of images that can only be achieved through animation. The Abyss

My inspiration is from the novel Us, which was written by Yevgeny Zamyatin, a Russian writer. In this world, no one has his/her own name except a code. Human beings are divided into several levels. Different levels were assigned to different types of work. The “Fountain” is both the source of energy and the landmark landscape in this city. There are many tall towers like diving platforms near the fountain. People can get closed to the “fountain” here. This city is always crowded and dark. D-503 lives a regular life here every day…

Extremely Cruel Sadistic Story: The Phantom of Love

Theater is a fictional world constructed for the viewers. To substitute our ideal selves through imitation, we seek inspirations in such performative acts to satisfy our subconscious and primitive needs for blood and thrill. In reality individual selves are always trapped in a state of isolation, constantly trying to communicate in some deep levels while always falling to do so. This need for intimacy is extended to the virtual world as we try establish the existence of the self. The four parallel stories are implicitly linked, and serve as each other’s metaphors.

Surf

On a hot summer day, a car is stuck in a traffic jam. The kids are sleepy in the backseat. They seem to feel something cool when they’re half awake. All of a sudden, they’re riding the waves with their feet on surfing boards, surfing in the gridlock. The streets in a big city are like rivers and their branches, and they’re racing each other. Cars, vans, trucks and buses are surging like sea waves. Suddenly, a super big wave comes and knocks them off their surfing boards! To their surprise, a bucket of water is splashed over the windshield. It turns out that their mom has driven the car into a car wash! It was just their imagination. They exchange a glance and smile.
