But, on the way, they wander into a labyrinth and have all kinds of trials and tribulations before getting out.

In kindergarten, children draw pictures. The teacher takes their drawings in turn and asks how the cockerel screams, the tiger roars… The children respond readily. In another drawing, the teacher shyly stops talking, asking the question: "How does the crocodile scream?" One girl suddenly answers: "Meow-meow," because, in her opinion, the crocodile swallowed her kitty in the drawing. And the fun song-game begins.

This animated short employs hand-drawn animation layered over stop-motion sequences of moving ink on drumskins to create a striking, mournful portrait of the Alberta tar sands. This film was made as part of the 7th edition of the NFB's Hothouse apprenticeship.
