Pinata

The life of a piñata may be poor, nasty, brutish, and short. A camera pans slowly down from a blue sky and a fluffy cloud to a tall leafy tree. Hanging from one branch is a piñata, a bright yellow donkey. The donkey opens its eyes when it hears children approaching. The donkey is pleased to see them until, to the strains of "La Cucaracha," five children start to whack it with sticks. The donkey is bewildered, and after a while, figures out how to pull itself up by the teeth out of the children's reach. Then an adult enters the frame, with a big stick. The donkey is frightened, and, involuntarily happens on a solution that just may save its life.

End of Code

An animation that combines narrative experimentation with the abstraction of motion capture about two groups of misfit hackers in a city of traffic. They speak a language of advertising, corporate branding and self-help, while engaging in a battle to control traffic lights. The discovery that the entire social code is embedded in the access code that regulates traffic lights, begins a twisted ride of cultural espionage techniques. These techniques include surveillance cameras and costumes, as they attempt to untangle the social codes of characters caught in an endless rush hour. The project is a 3D animation using motion capture applied to non-human characters that took five years to produce.

The Big Movie

A group of outsiders, misfits, and weirdos meet and begin an unforgettable adventure, overcoming their differences and discovering how to coexist. The Big Movie is a collaborative effort by the 3DMM community, that's essentially a sketch comedy made out of joke movies. Someone comes up with a premise, like "If the Knight looks at someone, they fly up into the ceiling", and everyone comes up with variations on it. The Big Movie takes about twelve different premises and compiles, overlaps, intertwines, and otherwise serves them up hot and fast.

Nari

Nari is the remarkable story of unsung artists Lakshmi and Viji Shankar—a mother and daughter duo who helped bring Indian music to the West in the 1970s though their collaborations with Ravi Shankar and George Harrison. This splendid, multi-generational mash-up features Sun Yunfan's visually vibrant animations, a plentiful offering from the Shankar family archives, and a live musical performance by filmmakers Gingger Shankar and Dave Liang. Nari triumphantly sings a rich and emotionally moving tribute to Lakshmi Shankar's important, yet unsung musical legacy in America.
