The year is 2021. And Hong Kong is one match away from qualifying for the World Cup. Flash back to 2009. Cheuk-long, aged 18, branded a geek by his girlfriend and an all-round loser by his mother. But he has a dream, ignited by a no-nonsense, Churchill-quoting teacher and driven by a spirited, big-hearted coach. The wannabe footballer grows up overnight, and through blood, toil, tears and sweat, makes the big leaps from the substitute's bench to captaining the Hong Kong side. Three World Cups later, Cheuk-long is one free kick away from making history and legend.

Aladdin and His Magic Lamp

He travels to Aladdin's village, identified as being near the border with China, where he enlists Aladdin's help by pretending to be his long-lost uncle and offering to leave his wealth to Aladdin. At one point, the Magician character tells the story of his travels to China, India and Persia and we see a montage of these adventures and it's kind of interesting because of the way it invokes other cultures of the era. There is some unnecessary padding throughout as characters break into songs that do nothing but tell parts of Once upon a time, somewhere in Africa, a local magician dreamed of owning the Magic Lamp. Thanks to a Magic Ball he learned that the Lamp could be found in an Asian village and that only the innocent hand of a young person could snatch it. The myths of Orpheus and Charon are interwoven with the entirely sung story of four friends dining in an Italian bistro who are fated to perish the next morning in the attack on the Twin Towers. At meal’s end, through magical realism, the restaurant’s mysterious strolling violinist is revealed to be Charon, hand extended, awaiting payment. Complying, each reconciles with death, and departs to the sounds of the next morning’s busy signals and the calls of first responders.

Twelve-year-old Artyom discovers a portal to the magical Enchanted Forest at an abandoned dacha and meets its amazing inhabitants, Winnie the Pooh and his friends. But an attempt to show off his find to his peers turns into a disaster - Artyom is laughed at, because most people see ordinary toys rather than fairy-tale characters. The magic portal disappears, leaving Pooh and his friends in the human world. 20 years later, Artyom, who has forbidden himself to dream and has sunk into routine, finds Winnie the Pooh again, and with him a chance to return the lost meaning to his life.
