Created by leading contemporary artist Jess Johnson and director Simon Ward in partnership with Tūhura Otago Museum, XYZZY is an immersive art-based planetarium screening like no other. Developed through a decade of creative work, Johnson’s hand-drawn compositions are transformed by Ward into an animated web of flesh mandalas, self-replicating architecture, undulating worms, hallucinogenic patterns, and messianic alien deities. The dynamic visual atmosphere is charged with 90s-inspired electronic synthesiser tracks from musicians Andrew Clarke, Luke Rowell, Stef Animal and Lachlan Anderson. Sound design by Lachlan Anderson and mixed by immersive sound artist and film score engineer, Graham Kennedy. Your Vacuum Sucks

Your Vacuum Sucks is an episodic film by Pieter Schoolwerth and Alexandra Lerman in which the lead character has been digitally erased from the image. Appearing as a hole, a shadow, or a mirror reflection of his properly embodied friends and coworkers he pays a friendly visit to in each of the four scenes, he engages in a series of rebus-like exchanges in which he attempts to negotiate the nature of his existence, whereby he is present to others literally through his own visual absence.

Pink Fairy

A long process of experimentation with a variety of different filmmaking techniques while examining an evolving queer identity. The film shows an emergence of the Pink Fairy. Part femme, part tomboy, part fairy, the characters come together to subvert the idea of a fixed identity. Luminescent imagery is imprinted by hand using hand-processed colour footage, optically printing Super 8 to 16mm, 16mm to 16mm, negative to positive, video to film, and repeating motifs, to explore the intricacies of the celluloid medium. Audio emotes through random manipulations in a Brion Gysin-like cut-up technique.
