A criminal psychologist invites three psychology students to his English countryside home to view some of his research on the criminal mind. Unbeknownst to the students, they are actually guinea pigs in a mind-control experiment he is conducting and the servants of the house are not what they appear to be.

However, it soon becomes clear that such manipulation of people, even if motivated by a noble goal, does not pay off.

During World War II, the American physicist Robert Oppenheimer was at the head of the research work for the production of the atomic bomb. He was removed from that position in 1953 due to disagreements with the US Atomic Commission regarding the development of the hydrogen bomb. The investigation that was conducted against him during the infamous time of anti-communist hysteria and the "witch hunt" during the time of Senator McCarthy is testimony to the great moral and psychological dilemma in which the scientists of that era found themselves.

While the two of them are having a lavish "old-mash" in the pub, the heifer disappears. The trouble is that Adam has paid for the animal at the pub but has not yet taken possession of it. The two neighbours can neither find the heifer, nor can they agree who actually owned the lost animal....
