Devils on the Doorstep

During the Japanese occupation of China, two prisoners are dumped in a peasant's home in a small town. The owner is bullied into keeping the prisoners until the next New Year, at which time they will be collected. The village leaders convene to interrogate the prisoners. The townspeople then struggle to accommodate the prisoners. One is a bellicose Japanese nationalist, the other a nervous translator. Will the townspeople manage to keep the prisoners until the New Year?

In July 1938, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China appointed Xiao Hua as commander and political commissar, and formed an eastward anti-Japanese advance column to arrive at the Hebei-Shandong border area to establish a base. Due to its rich natural resources and convenient transportation, this area has always been a chokepoint for military strategists. Xiao Hua used his keen political insight and unique wisdom to integrate the army's troops and recruit miscellaneous armed forces. Leading the army to raid the Japanese stronghold Denming Temple. The Kuomintang county magistrate Mou Yizhi, who had been wavering, sided with the Eighth Route Army, allowing the army to gain a firm foothold. Later, facing the Japanese and puppet troops, he once again attacked the Denming Temple by surprise and united the general Gao Shuxun. Xiao Hua eventually led his troops to capture the Denming Temple and established the famous Hebei-Shandong border anti-Japanese base area.

They fell in love; Chen Qiushui was 20. Wang Biyun was 18. When Qiushui fled Taiwan after the 228 Massacre, Biyun gave him a gold engagement ring and they promised to meet again. Qiushui served as an army doctor during the Korean War, where he met Wang Jindi, a nurse from Shanghai who fell in love with him instantly. Years had gone by, Qiushui married Jindi and settled in Tibet. While in Taiwan, Biyun buried Qiushui's mother and continued to pray for his return. Flashback to modern time, Biyun is living in New York. Her niece played by Isabella Leong, a writer, has travelled to Tibet to find out what happened to Qiushui. Through the pictures she sends back via internet, Biyun finally gets to see the familiar face once again.

The Hunter

Shanzi 's father is an experienced hunter. Under his father's influence, Shanzi became a skilled marksman. The Japanese came, massacred his village, and brutally killed his family, the sixteen year old boy became an orphan. One day, a Japanese broke into the trap set by him. He snatched the enemy's gun but was blocked by Eighth Route Army soldiers. After some twists and turns, he joined the Eighth Route Army. He thought that if he joined the army, he would be able to fight Japanese invaders and avenge his parents, but the army commander disarmed him and sent him to the cooking class to follow Lao Jiaodong. One day, the squad was tasked to cover a large force. However, this was a very dangerous mission. The sudden invasion of the Japanese plunged the squad into a bitter battle. They were forced in a desperate situation, at the moment of life and death, Lao Jiaodong sacrificed his life to save Shanzi. From then on, he became a lone hunter trying to take on the Japanese by himself.
