Le Regard

Le Regard is Nour-Eddine Lakhmari's first film. It is a film about abuse of power, guilt, and redemption. In Le Regard, 70-year-old French photographer Albert Tueis finds himself confronted with his past. As he prepares for an exhibition that will bring together all the works from his photographic career, he remembers the photos he took at the age of 19. A soldier during Morocco's war of independence, the young Albert was a photographer for the French army. The photos he took at the time were never published. One thing is clear: without these photos, the retrospective of his career will not be complete. Albert Tuies decides to return to Morocco to find the negatives he buried there. But he finds himself confronted with a new Morocco. And as he encounters the present and the rivalries and difficulties it hides, increasingly powerful and brutal images from the past resurface.

Set during the war between Dutch/Allied troops and the people of Cibening Cakung in 1945, the story begins when a young man captures 22 Indian soldiers and four British crew members who land on Rawa Gatel. Based on real events, the factual protagonists are KH Noer Ali, leader of Laskar Hizbullah, who is also an ulama (religious leader) who founded the Islamic boarding school; Luke Kustaryo from the Indonesian People's Army; Bang Jole, a local fighter; and Hussein Kamali, an intellectual. Among the fictional characters are H Komar and his wife, who are executed by the Dutch, in front of their children. Then there are also Mahfud and Hafid, members of Hizbullah, who are opponents but who reconcile when they are about to die.

Toyland

On a winter morning, a mother goes to waken her son Heinrich; his bed is empty. She leaves her flat to find him. The neighbors' door, with a Star of David painted on it, is ajar, the furnishings in disarray, the family gone. She asks passersby, runs to the police then on to the rail yard. Flashbacks show that Heinrich and the neighbors' son Paul are six years old and best friends. Paul's family's deportation is expected soon; Heinrich's mother tells her son that they're going to Toyland. Heinrich wants to go with them, has a bag packed, and listens for their departure. His mother realizes he's joined them, and her resolve becomes more urgent. Will she arrive in time to save Heinrich?

The incredible true story of how a bunch of writers, artists, set designers, and back room technicians pooled their talents in order to outwit the German High Command and fool Hitler. Espionage, counterespionage, decoy airfields, inflatable tanks, guns, and soldiers are all deployed in the run up to D-Day to create a massive diversion and the strongest possible indication that the landings will be in Calais rather than Normandy. A whole invisible army is conjured up: FUSAG, the First US Army Group. Major General Patton is placed in charge of this army, such is its importance he is detained in Britain for several weeks after the Normandy landings in order to successfully convince Hitler that a second and larger set of landings will be staged in Calais.

Soon he meets a beautiful slave named Claudia Acte, and marries her, throwing off his engagement with Claudius' daughter, Claudia Octavia, telling her she can marry someone she will be happy with. Heartbroken, she arrives at an island and kills herself. Nero enjoys being married to Claudia Acte, but soon he gradually goes mad with power and sets fire to Rome.
