Canudos was a small village in northeastern Brazil, founded by the messianic leader Antônio Conselheiro and massacred by a powerful army until the death of the last of its 30,000 inhabitants, on October 5, 1897. The film tells the story of the Canudos massacre from an English cannon, nicknamed by the backlands people "A Matadeira", which was transported by twenty teams of oxen through the backlands to fire a single shot.

The boy’s sexual curiosity leads him to have a sexual experience with Walt, an encounter that is shown with some vague detail but without actually showing any nudity, even though sexual intimacy between the two of them is implied. Overall, the movie handles this difficult subject with an elegant style and feeling, without having the adult-child relationship overwhelm the viewer and thus allowing the movie to be seen as just a wartime relationship between two people that marks an important time in a young boy’s life.

The Soviet Union has collapsed. Civil and ethnic wars have broken out in Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia, three republics in the Caucasus. The post-Soviet Caucasus have turned into one large conflict zone. Two radically different people with different ideals, problems, and goals are united by the conflict zone. Gogliko, a Tbilisi street boy, and Spartak, a Sukhumi sniper, are forced to solve problems of the street and problems of the state together. For one, the goal is to get back the money he lost gambling; for the other, it is to carry out a general's absurd military mission. The documentary film is based on reconstructed archival films of the 1920 Polish-Soviet war, which ended in one of the greatest military successes of the Polish nation. The film also uses radio recordings, accounts of participants and witnesses to the events, as well as archival material testimony that has survived to our time: photographs, orders and records of secret reports. Polish Television carried out a digital reconstruction of century-old, previously unpublished archival films, including those from Soviet Union, France, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Hungary and the USA.

Le Regard is Nour-Eddine Lakhmari's first film. It is a film about abuse of power, guilt, and redemption.
