When the ten-year-old Til and two of his friends are caught in heavy rains, they escape into a barn. They are not alone in there, however. Since he wants to keep his discovery a secret by all means, he sets his friends on the wrong track. Although Til is embarrassed and would like to know the reason for the thievery, he does not have the guts to take his father to task. Eventually, he breaks the secret to the coachman Paul. In the meantime, however, his friends have also found out about Til′s father and the case is revealed.

Meanwhile, Manuel accommodates himself at his teacher's and astonishes her with inexplicable reactions until she realizes that Manuel is just looking for love and attention. The plot is interrupted by several cutbacks from Manuel's memories of the parent's conflicting relationship.

The children’s film is based on Wenjamin Kawerin’s short story "Leichte Schritte". It centers on the ten-year-old Peter who is in love with his classmate Una. Much to his despair, however, Una is attracted to another classmate. Peter escapes into a dream world in which he spends a wonderful time with a girlfriend made from snow. As springtime arrives, the snow girl is threatened by the thaw. In order to preserve their friendship, Peter locks his "Una" into a cold store.
