What Have You Done To Me?

A short film based on the internet’s influence on identity and how it can shape our society, ideologies, beliefs, interests, style and perception of the world. Showcased in three narrative stages - Oblivion, Recognition and Discovery which follows a protagonist who faces these challenges of accepting their identity without the misconstrued influences of the internet and social media. The film touches on the grip the internet has on society, and the nature of repressing your identity to fit in. Using Mandelbro's song 'What Have You Done To Me' and 'The Optimist Playbook' to push the themes of personal identity and optimism when confronting the world and humanity. Also, using Djo's song 'On and On' to highlight the addictive nature of consumption. Amid negativity and an everlasting changing world, you can be yourself without having to 'fit in' by approaching an optimistic perspective and seeing where life takes you. In a world of fear, confusion, hate and judgement, choose joy.

Will You Dance With Me?

Derek Jarman’s Will You Dance with Me? is an essential document of LGBTQ London that was unseen until 2014, 30 years after it was originally shot. In September 1984, Jarman was invited by director Ron Peck and writer Mark Ayres to record improvisations at Benjy’s, a gay club in East London’s Mile End district, as part of the early experimental work for their feature film Empire State, a neo-noir that would be released in 1987. The coed, racially diverse crowd of roughly 100 people at Benjiy’s that night included club regulars, bar staff, and potential players in Empire State. Every single detail captured in Jarman’s on-location assignment abounds with era-specific riches: from the New Romantic cutie journaling while nestled in a corner booth to the DJ’s cheerful exhortations and the songs he spins (“Let the Music Play,” “Planet Rock,” “Relax").

Completely Pogued

'What we did, right, was we broke open the pop market, right? To trad music, right? Irish trad music, yeah? Now what happened after that I don't know...' So confesses toothy, hard-drinkin' Shane McGowan, lead man with punk-folk megastars the Pogues, the band that has taken traditional Irish folk and ramshackle rock to the bright pop lights of Wembley. In this rather haphazard but proud spirit, the documentary, like the Pogues' career itself, continues: the band and the various famous rockers they've jammed with offering opinions and anecdotes in a surprisingly entertaining and often revealing manner. Even if you have absolutely no interest in the music, the vast array of pasty-faced uglies is really quite stunning.

Britten: Peter Grimes

The Italian and international press were unanimous in their praise for "Peter Grimes" at La Scala, which revived the tradition of Britten's operas on the lyric stages of Italy. A top British cast was marshaled by the baton of Robin Ticciati. Richard Jones's production focuses on the fisherman as the outside in a brutal and brutalized 1980s society, cut off by mutual suspicion and misunderstanding: an unforgettable production of a 20th-century operatic masterpiece that never loses its power. Filmed in High Definition and recorded in true Surround Sound.

Melanie C ft. Sink The Pink - Live At The Troxy

During our summer Pride tour with my beautiful queens from Sink The Pink, we performed a sold out show at The Troxy in east London, after London Pride. It was amazing to get back to the place that inspired High Heels. Performing at the Sink The Pink’s Troxy club night more than two years ago, I was completely blown away by the wonderfully inclusive atmosphere, all the fabulous costumes and beautiful faces. It was such a treat to be part of something so joyous and I completely fell in love. We have had the most incredible year together, travelling the world and being fierce and fearless. It was a far cry from a sold out stadium tour but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. A lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
