BBC Four presents a special performance by Bruce Springsteen from LSO St Luke's in London's East End, an intimate backdrop for a superstar rocker more used to arena-sized venues. But fans of older works like Born to Run will find the venue switch dovetails nicely with a change in musical style. The Boss performs songs from his new album, We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions, which consists of folk standards and spirituals popularised by the American folk legend, Pete Seeger. According to the bbc.co.uk/music album review, it's 'a fine example of a contemporary artist taking great delight in collaborating with crack musicians and mining his country's songwriting past.' When Strauss and Hofmannsthal wrote «Der Rosenkavalier» – setting it in an imaginary Rococo Vienna and yet closely linked to the decadent fin de siècle – they created a profound social comedy. It is not without melancholy that the Marschallin lets her young lover Octavian go when he falls head over heels with Sophie, who hails from Faninal’s bourgeois household. As voluptuous as Strauss' score is, it contains tender moments of dream and melancholy. Director Lydia Steier stages Strauss’ opera according to an aesthetic concept by Austrian artist Gottfried Helnwein. Diana Damrau sings the Marschallin. Joana Mallwitz, chief conductor at the Konzerthaus Berlin, conducts the Orchester der Oper Zürich.

Directed by Laurent Pelly, the National Opera in Lyon stages this musical comedy about a man suspected of murdering his wives. Hortense Schneider originally played Boulotka, a village girl who reforms Bluebeard. Yann Beuron and Héloise Mas star, with Christophe Gay as the alchemist Popolani.

Viva Vivaldi! is a concert by the Italian mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli interspersing arias from the 20 surviving operas of Vivaldi with two concertos. Given with the early music ensemble Il Giardino Armonico before a very appreciative audience in the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, the performance is part of Bartoli's exploration of the Venetian composer's opera music which also includes The Vivaldi Album. There is a startling dynamic energy, which contrasts powerfully with the more restrained interpretations by singers such as Emma Kirkby. Bartoli's natural Italian and the live atmosphere of Maria Grazia d'Alessio's oboe gives her interpretation of the quietly haunting and melodically rich "Non ti Lusinghi la Crudeltade" from Tito Manlio a particular piquancy. The Flautino Concerto is a most attractive interlude, while the more famous Lute/Violin Concerto beguiles with its exquisite lyricism.

ARTE pays tribute to the memory of the unforgettable Michel Portal, who passed away on February 12, 2026. Invited in 2021 by the Nancy Jazz Pulsations festival to perform in the historic setting of the Salle Poirel, the French jazz legend led a high-profile quintet and performed his latest album with the minimalist title MP85—the very essence of creativity. He was accompanied by Bojan Z, Bruno Chevillon, Lander Gyselinck, and Samuel Blaser.
