On October 31, 2018, Herbert Grönemeyer gave a concert at the Radialsystem in Berlin. He and his band presented his new album "Tumult" to a small audience for the first time. "My whole album is about the times we're in. That's what inspired me. People like us, who don't spend their mornings and evenings on the internet giving their opinions, have to learn to be loud in a different way, to be loud in a relaxed way." But Herbert Grönemeyer also sings about what remains unchanged: Of love and being loved, of the happiness of small moments and the euphoria of new beginnings.

With the Russian soprano Irina Lungu, the British tenor Allan Clayton and the German baritone Matthias Goerne, a star cast has been found that ties in with the history of the work in a special way: Benjamin Britten composed his War Requiem as a work of mourning and remembrance of the war dead and wanted the soloists to be members of the countries that had previously been enemies in the war. The premiere took place in 1962 in the rebuilt Coventry Cathedral, whose previous building had been destroyed by German bombing. The text was based on the Latin text of the Missa pro Defunctis and poems by Wilfred Owen, one of the most important literary witnesses to the horrors of the First World War.

Opening with an extended and haunting rendition of Mockingbird, the guitars of John Lees and Colin Browne blend magnificently on Medicine Man and Play to the World, with Les Holroyd rendering a dramatic vocal performance on the latter. "Frozen Jumper" begins in hit-and-run style with a pulsating textural noise. Flickering, nearly rectangular patterns join on the image plane, at first in black-and-white, bringing to mind the sprocket holes in celluloid film and, not least due to the lack of geometric precision, giving the impression of a pre-digital origin. As the soundtrack rattles on in a minimalistic way, the pattern’s twitchy dance is submerged in various warm hues such as yellow, pink, light green and light blue, which in a different rhythm and to a more agreeable music could be perceived as the signature of slightly retro psychedelia.
