RAWGWAR: The Next Mutation is heavy metal band Gwar's third video release. It was sent out to promoters and the like, prior to Gwar signing to Metal Blade Records. It is a compilation of early MTV and cable TV appearances and a live show from 1989. Track 1 is from Gorgon's video magazine, 2 is of an interview from MTV, 3-5 are live, 6 is a video filmed in the studios where they made their appearance on Dr. Gruesome's Movie Morgue and features a demo version of the song, 7-14 are live, 15 is another Dr. Gruesome video, 16 & 17 are live, and 18 is a video featuring the Hell-O version of "Black And Huge".

The action takes place in the 18th century in Lima. The wandering artists Pericola and Piquillo perform in the town square. They love each other, but cannot get married - the poor artists do not have the means for this. Meanwhile, the Viceroy of Peru, Don Andreas-Ribeira, likening to Harun Al-Rashid, dresses up as a commoner and goes out into the city to find out what his subjects say about him. He falls in love with Pericola at first sight. But the fact that she is not married prevents the Pericole from appearing at the royal court.

Jackie McLean is a true jazz master and one of the few true authorities of the bebop era still in business, but at the time of this film his main gig was teaching at Hartford. Hartford seems to have had a low-profile and low-budget jazz department, and the same goes for this film, which clocks in at just over half an hour, and barely scratches the surface of the subject matter. Still, what is here is engaging and a surprisingly candid portrait. McLean is shown practicing in his apartment and - briefly - playing with his quintet, but most of the running time is spent at Hartford in the classroom - and what classes they must have been. McLean's stream-of-consciousness lectures run from Sun Ra to JFK's assassination to how he learned Giant Steps, and the students try their best to keep up. A fascinating glimpse into the mind of a jazz musician.
