This film, in a way, sparked the very first glimmers of the Spiral Spectrum idea. One night of the year 2023, , Amirhossein, feeling unwell, sat at the piano and played something—music that would later be used in the film. Soheil recorded an audio file that night, and the following day, while improvising with an old Panasonic Handycam, he played back the previous evening’s recording. The film you see is essentially a long, continuous one-take shot, captured through that process. During the editing, additional sounds and textures were layered into the musical fabric— including the voice of Maynard James Keenan performing a live rendition of "Simultaneous," and sounds from conversations among astronauts during one of their exploratory missions. In the end, it was after experiencing the final cut a few days later, once the editing was complete, that the essence of the Spiral Spectrum began to take shape in our minds.
A documentary about the Slovenian punk scene between 1977 and 1985: the bands formed were all made up of high school students who, despite their youth, quickly began to perform and triggered a wave of repression by the communist party. While Marshall Tito was dying in Ljubljana, an outburst of incredible creativity from young people took place in Slovenia, who no longer agreed to the party's one-mindedness. This was the first serious countercultural blow in the former Yugoslavia followed by a “Nazi punk affair” that put the three protagonists of the punk scene in custody. While English punks gathered in pubs, Slovenian punks gathered in the city center on Johnny Rotten Square.
On December 6 2024, Riga hosted Gustavo's arena show "Tagad tikai sākas"— the artist and producer’s most dynamic and dramaturgically rich performance to date. Alongside impressive concert footage, the documentary presents a fast-paced narrative about a unique phenomenon in the Latvian music scene: teams coming together to create massive shows designed to be performed only once. It's a story of bold artistic ambition, perseverance, and the ability to unite behind a shared goal — even when the creative visions of those involved don’t always align. It’s also a celebration of the passionate enthusiasm that drives Latvia’s creatives forward, despite the challenges posed by a small market and limited budgets. What sustains this kind of enthusiasm in the long run? What sacrifices does it demand? And how does the increasingly short lifespan of songs in today’s world influence the creative process? These are just a few of the questions that Gustavo seeks to explore throughout the film.
