Austin City Limits: The Best of Spoon

Spoon emerged in the early aughts and Austin City Limits is proud to present highlights from the band’s multiple appearances on the program over two decades. Pitchfork hails them as “one of the most stand-up bands of their generation” and as Rolling Stone raves of their twenty-five-year streak: “It’s just been one long stretch of slow-build greatness.” The 14-song, the career-wide hour is a master-class from a band that has inspired legions of diehard fans and made it strictly on its own terms: jagged guitar, tight melodies, and killer hooks, as frontman Britt Daniels’ indelible vocals, fuse with drummer Jim Eno’s impeccable beats to create a sound all their own.

Vanishing Point

In our humanity, there is a vanishing point. We step in and out of it; it’s a kind of zone in which we shift in each other’s perspective from definite to indefinite, and vice versa.” – Karl Ove Knausgaard. Taking inspiration from Knausgaard’s writing on art’s power to bolster our common humanity, Vanishing Point is a multi-channel film installation that meditates on human connection. The three screens show a line of musicians emerging from the distance as the music they play slowly becomes more audible. Through a series of synchronized camera movements, the sound of their instruments ebbs and flows, forming a constantly shifting trio playing a coherent piece of music across the three shots. The changing proximity and the resultant shifts in visual and sonic focus symbolize a mutable sense of connection between the viewer and musicians.

Salzburg Festival 2021: Currentzis conducts Mozart

At the Salzburg Festival 2021, the musicAeterna Orchestra conducted by Teodor Currentzis performed the last symphonies of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart – No. 40 K. 550 and No. 41 K. 551 Jupiter. The two pinnacles of Mozart’s symphonic heritage are interconnected: the classic wrote symphonies No. 39–41 in one short period of just a few fruitful weeks in 1788. In the concert the two symphonies – the two sides of Mozart’s unfathomable genius – are joined by works that are close to them both in spirit and the time of creation: the orchestral Masonic Funeral Music in C minor, the recitative and aria of Donna Anna from the finale of the opera Don Giovanni and the chorus from the spiritual cantata Davide penitente created in 1785.

Tonton Manu

Manu Dibango is eighty years old. Smiling like a kid, he blows out his birthday cake candles, followed by applause. An hour and half later, he is eighty-five years old. Between these two milestone birthdays, the film directors followed in the day to day footsteps of this smiling, debonair giant; for whom the expression, "quiet strength" seems to have been coined. Composer, musician, journalist, an ambassador of the Francophone world, honoured and distinguished around the world; Manu Dibango has remained himself wherever he may find himself.

La Vita Olistica

Gaining ideology from their last album Disco Volodar, the short film uses the core theme of space. The short film is filmed at Unit 3 Regents Trading Estate, the usual area for Sounds From The Other City. Using the philosophy of avante garde pioneer Maya Deren ‘one must at least begin with the body feeling’, the films opening is of the four piece standing atop of the hill in the Pendle countryside. This quickly melts into a warped reality and lands you into the POV of a camera and trapped in a liminal space where you see a band in session.

Shaârghot

Come interact live and ask your questions to the band, director Teddy and illustrator Lyan from the book "Compendium"! We will reveal the details of the next album and broadcast exclusive images of the new short film "Black Wave" and the book to be released in late 2021/early 2022! Coming straight out of a dystopian universe where cyberpunk and post-apocalyptic are mixed, the Shaârghot, a crazy creature born from a failed experiment, sows chaos in the Great Eye city. More than a music band, Shaârghot is above all a story and a concept that comes to life through their wild concerts. Post-apocalyptic costumes, a martial metal as dancing as percussive, dancefloor beats where acid and devastating synths are mixed, such are the ingredients which compose the scenic universe of the group.

Alestorm - Live in Tilburg
