Rory Gallagher: Calling Card

Rory Gallagher was the original Irish guitar hero, whose artistry with a battered ’61 Stratocaster became the stuff of legend. Bob Dylan and Muddy Waters admired him, the Rolling Stones tried to hire him – and his fans worshipped him. Clad in faded denim and a checked shirt, he sold 30 million records and became a charismatic icon of Irish music, inspiring musicians such as Brian May, The Edge, Slash and Johnny Marr. But away from the stage, Rory was an intensely private man. His closest confidante was his brother Dónal who accompanied Rory on his rise from their childhood Everly Brothers stage performances and the Showband scene across the North and South of the Irish border through to the deafening heart of the ‘70s rock scene in London – and far beyond. Now, Dónal, along with insights from Rory’s friends and admirers, takes us on a musical journey through the life and career of this shy guitar hero to better understand what made him so great.

The Dream of Delphi - A New Transmission

The Dream of Delphi - A New Transmission is a visual narrative that accompanies the calling, the creating and birthing of a child, with an exploration of both the human rawness that surrounds that experience and the mythical and universal realisations that have occurred for Natasha during her journey of motherhood. The dance pieces include partner work that explores the pressures, bonding, and tenderness that occurs when lovers become parents, and the dances with the two women hint at Natasha’s relationship with the midwives, the best friends and the sisterhood she felt she so badly needed around the birth of her daughter.

G. F. Händel: Mesiáš

A stage adaptation of the famous oratorio Messiah performed by the South Bohemian Theater, directed by Tomáš Ondřej Pilař and conducted by David Švec on the stage in front of the Revolving Auditorium in Český Krumlov... Director Tomáš Ondřej Pilař likens the oratorio Messiah to a large, luxurious box of chocolates containing the best of Baroque music. However, the path to the creation of this work was neither straightforward nor obvious. Georg Friedrich Händel was born in what is now Germany, in Halle an der Saale, on February 23, 1685. He was born into a Europe that adored opera, specifically Italian opera. What did Italian Baroque opera look like? At that time, it was a series of arias whose main purpose was to showcase the vocal abilities of the individual performers. To showcase how loud, how high, how fast they could sing, how they could change emotions during a single performance.
