Scenesters: Music, Mayhem and Melrose ave. 1985-1990

It was the 80s: Hardcore punk got too violent and started getting banned in clubs and venues, new wave died as well as the clothes and the first wave of metal became stale; we were looking for a new sound and a new look. Bored with what we knew, we ushered in Bands that lived harder and drank more than we did - bands like Hanoi Rocks, Guns N Roses, Jane's Addiction. It was freeing to be young and rock'n'roll - we changed the fashion and its rules, ran the town, set the scene and remade Melrose ave. our street. It was OUR time, Scenester's in Los Angeles. This 80 minute documentary goes back to the clubs, the scenester's, and the 'mover and shakers" of the time - the bands. A non-judgemental look at a musical movement that defined a generation and explained a culture.

Sing it loud - Luthers Erben in Tansania

For over 60 years, a major choir competition has been held in Tanzania, organized by the Evangelical Lutheran Church and attended by more than 1,500 choirs from across the country. To be eligible to participate in this year's competition, choirs must perform the chorale "Verleih uns Frieden gnädiglich" (Grant us peace, graciously) composed by Martin Luther, as well as an original composition. In her documentary film "Sing It Loud - Luther's Heirs in Tanzania," director Julia Irene Peters accompanies six people from Tanzania who sing in three different choirs: Martha and Simon work as small farmers near the village of Monduli and sing in the Neema Choir. Maria and Evarest are married and run a car repair shop in the Tanzanian city of Arusha, and they also sing in the Cantate Choir. And then there are the two young people Kelvin and Nuru from the Kanaani Youth Choir.

New York City Ballet in Paris

The New York City Ballet performs in Paris after an eight year absence. The production revolves around three great French composers who inspired NYCB founder George Balanchine: Charles Gounod, Maurice Ravel and Georges Bizet. The four ballets performed encapsulate Balanchine’s genius and his very own neo-classical style, they also provide a particular insight on the bonds that tied Balanchine to France. What is known today as Walpurgisnacht Ballet was a ballet choreographed for the opera Faust at the Paris Opera in 1975, it premiered as an independent piece in New York in 1980. Sonatine set to a music by Maurice Ravel, was created by two New York City Ballet's French principals, the recently departed Violette Verdy and Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux. La Valse was originally composed by Ravel for the Ballets Russes and Serge Diaghilev, then exiled in France, shortly before Balanchine entered the company. Symphony in C better known as Le Palais de Cristal, premiered at the Paris Opera.

Carlisle Floyd: Susannah

“Carlisle Floyd is one of America’s foremost composers. Though he has written in other forms, he is renowned for his operas, for which he also writes the libretti. The most famous and popular is his third opera, Susannah, premiered in 1955 and the second most preformed in all American operas. Updated and set in Tennessee, it is loosely based on the Apocryphal tale of Susannah and the Elders. The work is rooted in vernacular folk melodies, hymns, and contains soaring melodic beauty.” In the opera 'Susannah;’ Susannah Polk becomes the target of false accusations and scandalous rumors spread by the local church community. Her innocence is challenged, leading to tragic consequences as Susannah fights to defend her honor and integrity in the face of small-town prejudice and bigotry.

Allan Taylor - 50 Years on the Road

The first concert/movie recording from the "Bürgersaal" Northeim - wall to wall next to the Stockfisch studio. On May 18, 2016, Allan Taylor performed in the "Bürgersaal" for the first time, the concert was quickly sold out and some of the guests were partly from far away - they came from Schleswig-Holstein, Berlin, Braunschweig, Frankfurt and even from Hungary and the Netherlands. A wonderful evening with the great songs of this artist, who has been traveling around the world for over half a century with his guitar, his stories and songs. The man, whose voice is so incomparably warm and deep, whose guitar playing is so puristic, yet so full and expressive, and whose wonderfully simple lyrics base always on deep thoughts and a touch of melancholy.
