Singer, composer, actor and painter, Dorival Caymmi was a multiple artist, but what they may not know is his pioneering work in introducing candomblé into Brazilian popular music. Recreating in a poetic way concepts present in Caymmi's work and life, the documentary revelation of the artist from his own lines, mined in old magazines.

It’s the Summer of 1969. The temperature hovers around 105 degrees on a humid weekend in Memphis, Tennessee. It’s only been a year since the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But on this particular weekend, everyone in town, all races, creeds and colors have come out for the Fourth Annual Memphis Country Blues Festival. The lineup is the most ambitious in years, welcoming blues masters like Bukka White, Sleepy John Estes, Furry Lewis and the 106 year-old Nathan Beauregard, coupled with more notable headliners like Rufus Thomas & The Bar-Kays, John Fahey and rocker Johnny Winter. One attendee that year was Gene Rosenthal, who brought along a couple of cameras, a small crew and left with 40,000 feet of color film that was left untouched for nearly 50 years….until now. ‘Memphis 69’ is a time capsule. If you’re a blues enthusiast, watching this film feels like you’ve opened up a treasure chest and discovered that you’ve hit the motherload.

Marwan Pablo, 23, is a trap artist and one of the most important voices of the new generation in Egypt’s hip-hop scene. His first rap concert in Alexandria began on a bright morning, with a decent crowd in attendance. But just before he took the stage, it suddenly started to rain. The stage equipment wasn’t prepared for the weather, forcing the show to stop. Frustrated, Marwan stepped away, thinking of a way to continue the concert. Hoek’s Delta is, like a river delta, the mouth of the story of these three women involved in an accident, and what this causes in each of them, individually and as part of a whole. This all led by the music of the Venezuelan artist José Hoek, as a guiding thread and as sound support.

“Hallelujah” is a queer/circus concept about religion and the importance of choosing kindness regardless of our differences or beliefs. Religion is a tough subject for many in the LGBTQ community, and this piece is a reflection of the struggle and rejection we often feel. It tells the story of an individual troubled by the hate in the world and his partner who is fighting to lift him up, to remind him he is beautiful exactly how he is. My message is that religion should inspire more kindness and open arms, even towards those you may not understand.

During our summer Pride tour with my beautiful queens from Sink The Pink, we performed a sold out show at The Troxy in east London, after London Pride. It was amazing to get back to the place that inspired High Heels. Performing at the Sink The Pink’s Troxy club night more than two years ago, I was completely blown away by the wonderfully inclusive atmosphere, all the fabulous costumes and beautiful faces. It was such a treat to be part of something so joyous and I completely fell in love. We have had the most incredible year together, travelling the world and being fierce and fearless. It was a far cry from a sold out stadium tour but I wouldn’t have changed it for the world. A lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
