This new film approaches the world of French sound pioneer Éliane Radigue (*1932) from a perspective of close proximity. French filmmaker Eléonore Huisse and sound artist François J. Bonnet visit their friend Éliane’s home in Paris in times of social distancing and lockdown to explore questions pertaining to solitude, imagination, retreat, the inner voice and temporality – questions that resonate with Radigue’s work, philosophy and way of living as much as with the acute collective experience of suspension and isolation brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Their improvisation is matched to the rhythm of a tape of freely available footage from security cameras around the world. People and animals, city and nature, joys and tragedies. In conjunction with music, the videos are stripped of their original surveillance function and become vague, abstract, liberated images." -Ji.hlava IDFF 2021

Similar to Hans Zender, the choreographer Christian Spuck is also concerned with a journey into the interior of the human being.

Do you look back on the optimism of the 1997-2001 era as a lost golden age, or do you see it as a period of naïvety, delusion and folly? There’s a lot of nostalgia for the nineties at the moment, especially from people too young to remember it who see the decade as a simpler, pre-internet time. Modern nostalgia often draws on corporate American-90s mall culture, but what about British culture? With I’ve Been Trying To Tell You – made to accompany the Saint Etienne album of the same name – director Alasdair McLellan evokes the era through the fog of memory. The resulting film, shot in locations from Grangemouth to Portmeirion to Southampton, is both beautiful and enveloping.
