The Selecter: Live at the Roundhouse

The Selecter led by their iconic frontwoman Pauline Black, alongside an incredible talented band of musicians, and co-fronted by original member Arthur ‘Gaps’ Hendrickson perform at The Roundhouse in London. The anarchic passion that fuelled Selecter gigs during the 2 Tone era is still there, except the pair (Pauline & Gaps) are more driven than ever. Their confidence is sky-high and they’re also writing the best songs of their career, which is saying something given the enduring popularity of hits like Three Minute Hero, Missing Words and On My Radio.

Britten: Peter Grimes

The Italian and international press were unanimous in their praise for "Peter Grimes" at La Scala, which revived the tradition of Britten's operas on the lyric stages of Italy. A top British cast was marshaled by the baton of Robin Ticciati. Richard Jones's production focuses on the fisherman as the outside in a brutal and brutalized 1980s society, cut off by mutual suspicion and misunderstanding: an unforgettable production of a 20th-century operatic masterpiece that never loses its power. Filmed in High Definition and recorded in true Surround Sound.

Rasan Piya

'Rasan Piya' is a documentary on the life of renowned Khayal vocalist and poet, Ustad Abdul Rashid Khan. His story is that of an extraordinary musician, poet and teacher; of someone who has not only preserved but also added much to an ancient Indian art form; of a brave man who overcame his physical limitations to create beautiful music and inspire a whole generation of musicians and music lovers. The film explores the various influences that have shaped his life and music. His life also offers a commentary on the change that art in India has witnessed with the decline of the riyasats (kingdoms) and the patronage they offered. Lastly, the film attempts to draw one towards our ancient 'guru shishya parampara', as preserved and practised by one its most revered exponents.

Ola Gjeilo - PIANO IMPROVISATIONS

Although many of the pieces on this album are free improvisations recorded in one take, the first three tracks are fantasies around three of my own choral works; Ubi Caritas, Tota Pulchra Es and Prelude. Recordings of the original choral versions can be found on Phoenix Chorale's 2012 album, Northern Lights (Chandos Records). Producer Morten Lindberg suggested recording a few tracks where I would play layers of two or three pianos, which I thought was a great way to really exploit the surround sound potential on a solo album. We moved the piano between each take, eventually constituting a triangle, and the listener is sitting in the middle in a surround system setup. As a pianist, improvisation is where my heart is. With this recording I wanted to express and share my passion for that art form.

Thomas D.A. Tellefsen complete piano works

The story of Thomas Dyke Acland Tellefsen (1823-1874) has a special place in the history of 19th century Norwegian music. In his own lifetime he earned an international reputation as a composer, piano virtuoso and teacher, enjoying a close relationship to Chopin both as a pupil and a friend. The connection to Chopin is reflected in several ways in Tellefsen's music, both in terms of choice of style and genre and by the fact that the majority of his works are for solo piano.

The two volumes of Bach’s The Well-Temperd Clavier together represent one of Western music’s greatest achievements. A supreme technical challenge for any performer, they also offer an astonishing experience for every listener. Eminent Bach specialist Sir András Schiff, whose discography includes Bach’s complete keyboard repertoire, here performs Book I – embarking upon a cycle that he will conclude next year with Book 2.

Hillsong Worship: THERE IS MORE

In Genesis 32 we read the story of Jacob wrestling with God through the night. On the other side of Jacob’s divine encounter was a new name, a new blessing, a new identity and a new way of walking (literally). Will we be a worshipping people who are not content to sleep through the night (spiritually speaking) and wake in the morning unchanged? Like Jacob, will we enter into the wrestle with God, dare to know Him more intimately and be changed in the process? This is the premise for Hillsong Worship’s 26th live praise and worship album.

Party 51

Duriban, a humble noodle restaurant visited often by lonely indie musicians in a bustling city of Seoul, Korea, was brutally evicted and demolished by greedy construction company and pro-conglomerate-only city government with mere $3,000 as a moving expense. Outraged by the situation and related to their disadvantageous performance and poor contract conditions, 51 and plus indie bands in the area join the long 500 and more days of protest till Duriban receives socio-economically reasonable and acceptable compensation and reopens its new venue in a new in the area. A striking social activism demonstrated among the young indie musicians and their growth as artists through unity in modern day in Seoul, Korea.
