Ra Ra Riot: Live in the Canal Room

Ra Ra Riot. Such an appropriate name. The cheerleader-esque "Ra ra" chant evokes images of high school, all of which can be found in this youthful band. You've got your photogenic prom queens on violin and cello. Your shaggy-haired Drama Club Stud on vocals. Your lovable athletic jock on drums. Your wacky class clowns on guitar and bass. And there's the "Riot" part, which comes close to describing this six-piece's blend of controlled chaos. The songs combine distorted guitar, fat bass, keyboards, orchestrated strings, and vocals. Mix the Arcade Fire with Devo and some coverpage-worthy good looks, and you wouldn't be too far from Ra Ra Riot's enjoyable racket.

Foramen Magnum

Rami Be'er's Kibbutz Contemporary Dance Company opened proceedings with a large scale piece, Foramen Magnum, which showed off the physical talents of his company well. Childish needs were served by having much of the early action take place inside a transparent "bouncy castle"; later it matures on to a large inflatable mattress, on which a delicately erotic duet was played out. Around these, the large corps de ballet occupied itself with a set of curious collapsible wooden props, used sometimes for ploughing and sometimes as beach chairs. Some imaginative dance was not well served by lighting which made it difficult to watch the dancers' feet, ugly costumes which hampered their movement, and a constantly jarring choice of ill-assorted music which ranged from Dowland to "Send in the Clowns".

Honeymoon Suite - HMS Live

Following the European release of their last studio album "Dreamland" in spring 2002, Canadian AOR masters Honeymoon Suite appeared for a special one-off show at the GODS Festival in Bradford, UK, on June 2nd 2002. With a lineup featuring founding members Johnnie Dee and Derry Grehan, together with new guys Peter Nunn (Alannah Myles, Gowan, Brighton Rock} on keyboards, Rob Laidlaw (Lee Aaron; Kim Mitchell, Rik Emmett) on bass, and drummer Brett Carrigan, the band sounded tight and performed an amazing show which included such classics as "Stay In The Light", "Burning In Love", "New Girl Now", and brand new songs like "What I Know" and "Touch The Sun" (only available on the Canadian release "Lemon Tongue"). All in all an outstanding performance which adds the GODS 2002 series another gem for the melodic rock collectors around the globe.

The Collins Kids at Town Hall Party Vol.1

We've heard so much about how great the Collins Kids were on the old Town Hall Party shows, but now there's finally a chance for us all to see just how great they really were. Lorrie looked like an angel and sang like an angel. Larry was among the era's most dynamic performers. He could run, jump, and duckwalk…all while playing a guitar that was almost as big as he was. This DVD really sets the record straight. The Collins Kids might have had no hits, but they were among the brightest stars in early rock 'n roll. Here (from 1954-58) they're mostly playing other peoples' hits, blues hits, and pop classics, but they're never outclassed by the originals.
