We Came Home

We Came Home is the story of Afghanistan through Afghan American musician, Ariana Delawari. Born in LA, the year the Soviets invade Afghanistan, her home's filled with refugees, Afghan music and her father's dedication to Afghanistan, a country nobody else seemed to care about. During the Taliban resurgence, Ariana records an album with master musicians in Kabul, revealing the challenges of building anything in this country. The Smiths: Glorious Noise

Never was the pain of adolescence so vividly soundtracked as it was by The Smiths during their brief tenure in the 1980s. So hopelessly romantic and so utterly British, the song writing partnership of Morrissey and Marr was almost too perfect to exist for any length of time, as it entwined poetry and melody with timeless brilliance. Glorious Noise is feature length documentary film which reviews the entire career of The Smiths. Beginning with their formation in Manchester in the early 80s, and taking flight through their four pivotal albums, their legendary live performances and their controversial behaviour, culminating in their abrupt demise, the film covers the full story of the finest British act of the past thirty years.

Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny

In an imaginary American city, God consigns its licentious citizens to hell but they truculently reply that they are already there. Mahagonny ‘the city of nets’ is founded in the desert by three criminals on the run from the police. It is to be a city devoted to pleasure. The only god is money. So Jimmy Mahoney, the hedonistic lumberjack, is condemned to death for being unable to pay the bill for the whisky he has consumed. A testament to the fertile but fraught collaboration between composer Kurt Weill and man of theatre Bertolt Brecht, Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny is one of the great operas of the 20th century. Brecht might have resented the dominance of the music over the words but together they created a work with rich melody and unstoppable dramatic momentum.
