La Carmen

A young ex-seminarian named José is doing his military service in Córdoba. There he meets Carmen, a beautiful flamenco dancer who falls madly in love, to the point that he steals to get money for her, so he will be imprisoned. José does not support the separation and, when he is driven by the Civil Guard on a train, he runs off by jumping out the window. He then left for Madrid in search of Carmen, who now lives in the company of his uncle, the lame, master of dancers. The woman welcomes José coldly, although they engage in a strange and tense relationship behind the back of El Morao, her former pimp, who lives with her again.

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Joaquín Gaztambide’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream was first performed at the Teatro del Circo in 1852. Participating in the revival of this comic opera are Miguel Ángel Gómez-Martínez, the veteran musical director, who considers Gaztambide to be “interesting, enjoyable and the holder of an extraordinary musical quality”, and Marco Carniti, the stage director, who wants to make us enjoy the beauty of a work which cheerfully veers between dream and reality. The libretto has been completely revamped and the action moved to Rome in the 1950s. Broadcast live from the Teatro de la Zarzuela on February 10th, 2019.

A long time ago, in a place now known as the eighties, in Puerto Rico you were either a “cocolo”, somebody who listened to music from the ghetto and the streets, or a “rockero”, those who listened to American pop music. Javier is a “cocolo” who’s trying to find the courage to ask out the girl of his dreams. Laura, the prettiest “rockera” in their school, is trying to regain her popularity after her friends reject her for being a flirt. During a mix up at their high school, Laura and Javier are forced to enter a TV dance contest. In order to win, the snotty rich girl and the guy from the wrong side of the tracks have to discover that comedy and teenage angst move to same beat.

Big Big Train’s Summer Shall Not Fade - Live At Loreley is a blu-ray and double CD set of the band’s legendary performance at the Night Of The Prog festival on 13th July 2018 at Loreley in Germany. The audio for Summer Shall Not Fade has been mixed in both 5.1 and stereo by Big Big Train’s resident sound engineer, Rob Aubrey. The thirteen song set runs to over two hours. It includes classic material from English Electric, Folklore and Grimspound studio albums, and fan favourite deep cuts Kingmaker and Summer’s Lease. The performance features the full Big Big Train live band, including the late David Longdon, plus a five-piece brass section and is made even more remarkable by the fact that it was only the band’s eighth live show in this incarnation.
