Ben Webster In Denmark 1965-1971

Ben Webster was one of the legendary "big three" tenor sax players of jazz history along with Coleman Hawkins and Lester Young. From Ben's early days honing his style in the great bands of Duke Ellington, Bennie Moten and others, to later years following his move to Europe in the 1960s, his playing improved with age as the passion of his Kansas City Swing became enriched with a more mature and tender approach to melody. The legendary swing tenor saxophonist headlines this series of programs originally produced for Danish television during the late 1960s and early 1970s, which depict the musical giant at the very peak of his form. The first program, entitled 'Big Ben' (1971), presents a documentary overview of Webster's life - one of those rare occasions when he spoke candidly about his career. Three of the programs in question feature Webster in concert, accompanied by a variety of groups including a big band, a large string ensemble, and two musicians that formed a trio with him.

The Holidaymakers: A Film about The Clientele

The Holidaymakers, a 2005 fan documentary about the Clientele, begins with home-video footage from the early ’90s of the nascent London band — probably just out of their teens at the time — rehearsing in a suburban backyard while the light of a stunning summer’s day begins to fade. Thanks to a combination of outdated technology, a worn and possibly oft-copied videotape, and the perfectly imperfect shadows and sunspots that only nature can provide, the footage is unintentionally, unbearably poignant: a surviving materialization of the blurred memory of lost youth, still tangible but beginning to erode, and all the more beautiful for its apparent fragility.

And what is the mysterious 'Babacus' that nobody's allowed to mention? Alexis and his friends will be taken on an epic quest to find out all these things... and much, much more.

Waiting for Godik

Waiting for Godik chronicles the rise and fall of larger-than-life Israeli musical theatre impresario Giora Godik, one of the prominent icons of the country’s happy ’60s. Godik sought to bring the American dream to Israel through glamorous, first-rate productions of My Fair Lady, Hello, Dolly!, The King and I and the original smash hit Kazablan, among other musicals. Boasting archival recordings of these sensational productions as well as recent interviews with many Israeli theatre icons, Waiting for Godik offers a nostalgic trip through a time when Israel’s cultural boundaries were just beginning to open to the outside world.

Heavy Metal Me

Heavy Metal Me is a DVD release by Japanese band Boris. It consists of live performances of "Feedbacker" and "Flood", music videos for "A Bao A Qu" and "The Evil One Which Sobs", and the titular short film Heavy Metal Me. The short film is actually a series of chapters on the disc which play in a random order every time the user hits play (though the chapters for each language remain together). Filmed primarily in black and white, the piece is deliberately low quality and aged, with guitarist Wata playing the lead; most chapters feature analog hiss and white noise for audio tracks, though some are totally silent, and others contain acoustic guitar plucks atop the hiss. Notably the DVD has no "play all" button and each portion must be played individually from the menu.
