Juliano Cesar (Passos, April 29, 1960) is a singer, songwriter and Brazilian presenter. He began his career in 1985, after being pedestrian rodeos and farmer. The interior of Minas Gerais, Julian spent his nest-egg on his first album independently, which featured his performance in reworkings of hits and Chitãozinho Xororó and Millionaire and Jose Rico, among others. In the late 80s he moved to São Paulo, and in 1990 released his first album for a record deal, this time with his compositions, including "not learned to say goodbye", later covered by Leandro and Leonardo. For this disc Julian won the Sharp Award singer revelation. After five years with no record and a trip to Nashville, the mecca of country, where he maintained contact with the popes of the genre, Julian launched in 1997, his first album for Paradoxx, already fully dedicated to country music.

The band decided to end what had been a spectacular year with some shows at the venue where they had first played as The Cribs. The idea was to play each of their three albums on separate nights in their entirety along with rarely heard songs to an intimate crowd of fans, family and friends. Franz Ferdinand, Kate Nash and Kaiser Chiefs would make surprise cameo appearances alongside pint pulling competitions that added to the sense of occasion that gave each evening the air of something really special. Live At The Brudenell Social Club is a limited edition triple DVD which includes live renditions of every Cribs song ever recorded (some of which have never been released). It also includes behind the scenes footage and interviews with Johnny Marr and Alex Kapranos amongst many from the world of The Cribs.

Singer Eva Cassidy died of cancer at a young age. After her death in 1996, her music was only widely picked up and sold. The American was at home in all markets, as can be seen on this DVD; she plays jazz, pop, country and folk together. Covers like What A Wonderful World, Time After Time and Autumn Leaves are beautifully performed in a unique way. The performance was filmed somewhat amateurishly with one camera, 9 months before her death on January 2 and 3, 1996, at the Blues Alley Jazz Club in Washington. The sound is perfect and Cassidy sings flawlessly.

In this narrative ballet, John Neumeier links the myth of the swan prince Siegfried with the tragic life story of Ludwig II, King of Bavaria, who fell into madness, and contrasts his own creations with the old original choreography by Ivanov and Petipa from 1895. Recorded at the Hamburg State Opera in May 2001.

If necessity is the mother of invention, then Tijuana is where she gave birth and raised her kid. A city that rejects entropy, Tijuana constructs its own rules. Its denizens negotiate the chaos with fierce independence, ingenuity and a gift for improvisation. Frontier Life is a feature-length documentary that explores beyond Tijuana's Sin City heritage, beyond the aura of menace cultivated by the mainstream media, and searches for the heart and identity of a city that is much more than a cantina-strewn throwback to the Old West. This film does not set out to valorize or condemn what it finds. It approaches Tijuana on its own terms, looking at the city not so much in relationship to the U.S., the border, or even other regions in Mexico, but rather from the inside, within its own context.

Closing out the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival, Chic, featuring Nile Rodgers made sure that this festival would end on a high note. Jamming on sme of their most memorable funk/disco hits, Chic also threw in a medley of songs by Rodgers and Bernard Edwards originally performed by Diana Ross and Sister Sledge. In 5.1 surround sound audio. In addition to producing their own disco hits such as "Le Freak" and "Good Times" (the latter of which jumpstarted a music revolution when it was used as the sample for the first-ever rap single, the Sugarhill Gang's "Rapper's Delight"), the Rodgers and Edwards team also wrote anthemic hits for Sister Sledge ("We are Family") and Diana Ross ("I'm Coming Out"). This program finds a reunited Chic (minus Edwards, who died in 1996) performing these songs and more at the 2004 Montreux Jazz Festival.

Bloodied But Unbowed chronicles Bloodshot Records' 12 years (and counting) in the trenches of independent music. It's a world where it's easier to take down an M-1 Abrams tank with pub dart than get noticed and appreciated by the mainstream. Here you'll find the highs, the lows, the humiliations and the triumphs. It's an inspirational tale of the ages for anyone foolish enough to want to start a record label.

This film is essentially about the music of B Fachada, but it does not stop in Lisbon, venturing into the interior of the country and, like a postmodern Giacometti, risking a trip to the origins of what will be the “tradition”. We see old women, we see the countryside and we see the city. There are fragments of old stories, there is an attempt (not always achieved) to connect the old themes of the field with the original songs of Fachada and there is a fragile (and welcome) humanity that runs throughout the film.

Puccini was always adamant in his preference for all three of the one-act operas that comprise Il trittico to be performed together. That’s how they are in this 2007 Modena production. From the start he had recognized the essential synergy of the brilliant contrasts of melodrama, sentiment and comedy when the trio is presented as an entity across a single evening. Many producers, daunted by a very long evening, made even longer by extended intervals necessary for the changing of very different sets, have been tempted into splitting and pairing them with other short operas. In this Modena production Amarilli Nizza appears in all three operas; as the faithless wife Giorgetta in Il tabarro, as Suor Angelica and as Gianni Schicchi’s daughter Lauretta. Alberto Mastromarino is the jealous husband, Michele in Il tabarro and as Gianni Schicchi.
