Not content with slavishly following the West, many classically trained Taiwanese musicians are exploring their own roots and creating exciting new hybrids that keep pace with changing times. Could this trend signal a re-assertion of Taiwan's own traditions?

Respected Hong Kong composer Joseph Koo, the creator of numerous classic Cantonese movie and TV drama theme songs, announced his retirement in 2015 and held the Dr. Koo Glorious Concert at Hong Kong Coliseum on December 8-19. Top singers such as Adam Cheng, Liza Wang, Hins Cheung, Frances Yip, Teresa Cheung, Kay Tse, Johnny Yip, Susanna Kwan and Elisa Chan participated in the concert to pay the highest tribute to the Godfather of Cantopop. Awarded a Gold Bauhinia Star for his considerable efforts in Hong Kong music industry, Joseph Koo presented The Gold Bauhinia Charity Concert at Hong Kong Coliseum on February 26 and 27, 2016, to express his gratitude to fans. Adam Cheng, Liza Wang, Susanna Kwan, Teresa Cheung, Sandra Lang, Teresa Carpio, William So, Lui Fong, Albert Au and C AllStar were invited to perform in the concert, and Michael Hui served as the host.

Hong Kong jazz-pop diva Bianca Wu held her fourth solo concert Body n' Soul at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts from December 18 to 20, 2015. Backed by her frequent partner New York Jazz Cats and Amy Winehouse's guitarist Robin Banerjee, the singer performed various newly rearranged songs including hit numbers "Winter," "Wake Up" and "Eastern Wind," as well as classic English songs Smooth Operator and How Deep Is Your Love. In addition to the songs from her Jazz Them Up cover album series, Bianca also reinterpreted Eason Chan's "When Grapes Are Ripe" and collaborated with George Lam for "Who is the Most Beloved" and Make Me Day.
