The classic story of love, erotism and death has been reinterpreted by Fraser to include both the on stage performance of the ballet, and an off-stage romance – interwoven with the ballet – that tells of two itinerant dancers, separated by time, distance and their abiding love for each other.

Taking as a starting point the celebration of a birthday, the documentary shows interviews and musical performances of a group of veteran criollo singers -most of them over 70 years old- who incorporated music as an everyday thing. They show us how their life and their traditions mimic music, keeping it alive despite the disinterest and oblivion of the general public.

Extensive archive footage (including performances and behind-the-scenes interviews) from the turbulent final evening of the Festival of Brazilian Popular Music 1967 paints a fascinating picture, not only of the transformation of Brazilian music into real "festival" music, but also of a society starting to buck against the yoke of military rule.
